The DeskBots Transmitter is a simple way to control a DeskBot on a remote machine over a network. In order for the transmitter to work, the remote DeskBot must be shared and program linking enabled.
To make the remote machine speak some text, type in the desired text and click on the "Send" button. A window will be displayed showing all machines in your zone - highlight the target machine. A list of active applications on that machine will then be displayed in the right window - select the DeskBots application and click on the "OK" button. You will be prompted for your user name and password, then your message will be sent and the remote DeskBot will process it. You may continue to send messages to the remote DeskBot without having to go through the linking dialog - this is only neccessary the first time you link to a given DeskBot in any given session.
To store the network address of the remote machine, select "Add This Machine…" from the Target menu or type + (command plus). This is particularly handy if you are connected to a large network.
You can click on the "Halt" button to tell the remote DeskBot to stop processing its normal phrases - it will speak only when you tell it to. You can click the "Resume" button to tell the remote DeskBot to resume processing it's normal phrases. The transmitter will automatically send the "Resume" command to the remote DeskBot when you switch control to a different machine or quit the Transmitter.
The DeskBots transmitter can even be used as a rudimentary communications system - two or more users can "talk" through each other's DeskBots.
